DOBRO KENNELS was established in 1981 with the
aim to breed sound, typical Goldens that can fulfill roles in the
Show Ring, Obedience and above all Family Companions.
Liz's first dog was a Cocker Spaniel when she
was 7 years old. She did Obedience training and grew up with a love for
obedience work.
When Liz's children were at an age suitable to care
for a dog their first Golden arrived by default, her name was to be
Champion Larbourd Piet CDX 'Shadow'. Liz was training a Dalmation in her
early twenties which was a hard dog to train. Shadow the Golden, was
owned by a fellow trainee and he wanted a home for her as she was not winning
in the show ring. So at the tender age of 12 Months Shadow came to live
with Liz and she finally found the dog of her dreams. Shadow
went to to her CD and CDX titles in obedience and at one trail Liz
decided to show her in the breed ring just for fun. Shadow and Liz
walked out with Best of Breed from a large entry and they were hooked.
Shadow had two litters , her first to Champion
Goldog Alpine Earl a Davern Figaro Grandson and from the Deremar mother line
sired by Christopher. All the breeding we do today is based on
Davern Figaro as the temperaments and soundness are superb.
From this we kept Champion Dobro Somerset, Dobro
Steely Dan CD went to live at Jonesh and Dobro Shangrila went on to
be an Obedience Champion handled by Meredith Longfield.
Steely Dan and Somerset went on to produce winning
progeny, some behind today's influential kennels, namely Ch Giltedge
Virginia a grandaughter of Somerset, Champion Jonesh Xposey and
Champion Jonesh Outlaw.
Shadows second and final litter was to Jonesh
Daintree CDX an Earl grandson, this produced the topflight bitch for
Jonesh kennel, Ch Dobro Tamarind CDX, Best In Show Specialty winner.
After this time Liz took some time 'off ' due to
three teenage daughters taking up time with Basket ball, swimming and horses.
Once Liz got her own life back she was lucky to get Champion Jonesh
Te Parotu (AI) 'Bear' from Jonesh kennels, a Steely Dan Grandson. Bear is
the product of artificial insemination from New Zealand Grand Champion and
Australian Champion Caldicot Swift . Progeny from this lives on in some
of Dobro's present days lines , just recently a litter which are Bears
Grandchildren whelp early 2005.
In the quest for new bloodlines going back to
Figaro, we were very lucky to get frozen semen from the immortal
British Champion Ritzilyn Cockney Robin - from this Champion Dobro
Colonial Boy (AI), Champion Dobro Eternal Flame (AI) and the Specialty
winning bitch Dobro Free As A Bird (AI) ( owner Ann Smith) were
produced. Jonesh Kennels produced the specialty winning Champion Jonesh
Emily Bronte (AI) who went on to produce Champion Dobro Secret Agent,
D. Secret Fantasy and our top winning boy/producer Champion Dobro
Samurai Guy.
To combine these lines back for temperament, soundness
and type we were very lucky to get frozen semen from British Show
Champion Golmas Governor of which we have two young hopefuls, Dobro
Diamond Edge (AI) and Dobro Delilah (AI) . Bernard then sent us a bitch to
consolidate these combinations Golmas Goody Two Shows ( IMP UK).
Along this path we took the opportunity to use the
imported dogs, Australian Champion Stanroph School Boy, UK and Aust.
Champion Stanroph Shogun and Stanroph Sail Away and also purchase a
line bred bitch Champion Goldfleece Fly So High to establish these
combinations. These lines make up the larger part of our breeding pool.
Needing an outcross and influx of new blood we could not
believe our luck when Heather Morss, from the famous Xanthos kennel in
UK - let Xanthos Fletcher Christian (IMP UK) come to Australia to live
with us in
April 2004.
Already having an established show career and very
promising youngsters in Europe and UK we have not looked back. His lines will
be combined with the last 25 years work and so far his kids are doing us
proud.
