Operations

Albatross Aero Club was formed in 1990 by a small group of aviation enthusiasts from the Naval Air Station who wanted to provide a general aviation service to the Navy and civilian personnel in the Nowra area. The club has since grown, now operating three aircraft and boasting a membership of approximately seventy people. The Club's main activities are focused on the conduct of flying training from ab initio up to the Commercial Licence level.

Operations are conducted from the Old Civil Terminal on Braidwood Road, next to the Aero Club Hangar. Facilities within the terminal building include a telephone and facsimile machine, photocopier, VHF radio for communication with airborne aircraft, a small briefing room, and a waiting room and viewing area for friends and relatives who want to watch you in action.

Currently three types of aircraft are permanently operated from Nowra with the majority of initial training being conducted in a Cessna 152. More advanced navigation training is completed in a Piper Cherokee, while a Cessna 182 is available for fully licensed pilots to hire for longer distance cross country flights.

The Club building is open on weekends from 9:00am until 4:00pm, and on weekdays as the flying program dictates.
