The Shoalhaven Art Society Inc

The Shoalhaven Art Society was formed in 1963 to promote and foster an appreciation of fine arts, and recognition of the artist in the community.
It holds meetings, discussions, demonstrations, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, social functions, and other activities which can help achieve its objects.

The demonstration meeting is held on the second Thursday of each month, commencing at 1.30 p.m. A committee meeting is usually held during the morning of the same day. NOTE that a meeting is usually not held in January.

All members are welcome and encouraged to attend the demonstration meetings, which are a pleasant social gathering as well as an important help in artistic development; there are always interesting demonstrations and valuable discussions. Visitors are also welcome. Cost is $4. Members are encouraged to bring a small plate of suitable food to help with afternoon tea.

Each year there is a major open exhibition with significant prizes, and entries come from many parts of New South Wales and some other States. Smaller members-only exhibitions are also held. There is a standing exhibition of members works in our room at the Art Centre, which is changed over regularly, about each second month.

Contact address is PO Box 240 NOWRA NSW 2541, and this year's committee is:

The Shoalhaven Art Centre has been open well over two years now, and the Art Society has been making the most of its first ever place to call home. Members' exhibitions are continuous and there are several regular workshop series as well as days for discussion and mutual support and advice.

There have been very successful workshops with topline artists, and this will continue. In addition there are smaller ongoing workshops and other programmes for members, with informal drop-in days, painting days, and the like. The library is now quite extensive and is fully available in the room, to read there or to borrow. All this is still generating a good deal of excitement and membership continues to increase.

Our monthly meeting programme this year has been very successful, with some great demonstrations to enthuse those present.

Members are currently putting a lot of thought and effort into an examination of the programme to see what improvements can be made. Despite the successes, all know that standing still is a poor option. We must develop and keep pace with a changing world.
