The Shoalhaven Art Society was formed in 1963 to promote and foster an appreciation of fine arts, and recognition of the artist in the community. It holds meetings, discussions, demonstrations, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, social functions, and other activities which can help achieve its objects. |
The move to Berry has been successful so far and looks good for the future. Monthly demonstration meetings have been successful, and there has been a good number of sales at the regular exhibitions.
All members are welcome and encouraged to attend the demonstration meetings, which are a pleasant social gathering as well as an important help in artistic development; there are always interesting demonstrations and valuable discussions. Visitors are also welcome. Cost is $4. Members are encouraged to bring a small plate of suitable food to help with afternoon tea.
Each year there is a major open exhibition with significant prizes, and entries come from many parts of New South Wales and some other States; this year the exhibition will be held from the first week in August. Smaller, members-only, exhibitions are also held, including a standing exhibition of members works in the Berry School of Arts, which is changed over regularly, about each second month. There is also a standing exhibition in the Shoalhaven Hospital, which is changed over every few months.
