The Shoalhaven Art Society was formed in 1963 to promote and foster an appreciation of fine arts, and recognition of the artist in the community. Monthly demonstration meetings are now held at the North Nowra Community Centre, starting 12.30pm, 2nd Thursday of each month; Members $5 and Guests $8. There has been a good number of sales at the regular exhibitions.
All members are welcome and encouraged to attend the demonstration meetings, which are a pleasant social gathering as well as an important help in artistic development; there are always interesting demonstrations and valuable discussions. Visitors are also welcome.
Each year there is a major open exhibition with significant prizes, and entries come from many parts of New South Wales and some other States. Smaller, members-only, exhibitions are also held. There is also a standing exhibition in the Shoalhaven Hospital, which is changed over every few months.
