Machteld HaliÕs relationship with printmaking began with childhood
experiences of potato printing in Holland and continued via a
rich and varied journey to her present involvement with the art.
The journey has taken her from woodblock printing on fabrics in
the sixties, to a career as a studio potter, a systems analyst,
a librarian, and a teacher of Art, Drama and English. Hali is
influenced by the three cultures that her journey included - born
in Holland, childhood in Indonesia and maturity in Australia.
HaliÕs imagery seeks to explore, enjoy, and express the infinite
beauty of the
physical world and the human body. She aims to show the poetry
of the landscape
that lies Ō under her nose Õ, the immediate and often overlooked.
The moulding of human figures in these landscapes show us a view
of ourselves and our world tinted by love, humour and reverence.
Hali has had solo and group exhibitions, locally and overseas
as well as being widely represented in private collections. She
conducts printmaking classes in her studio as well popular weekend
workshops. Using rich colour and dynamic design Hali produces
viscosity-printed collagraphs, lino prints and zinc etchings that
leap off the wall and make you glad to be alive!
