Welcome
to U3A Milton-Ulladulla Campus Inc.
Some
background on the campus
Foundation
The University of the Third Age (U3A)
movement began in France in the early 1970s. It quickly spread around
the world, reaching Australia (Melbourne) in 1984. In 1987 a campus
was formed at Nowra in the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales. The
Milton-Ulladulla campus started in 1988 under Nowra's wing, but
became autonomous in 1990.
Our existence is mainly due to the vision
and effort of Harry and Marcia Higgs.

Harry Higgs was a senior rocket engineer at
Woomera who went on to develop federal policies on the environment.
Australia owes a lot to Harry's vision and his dedication to the
Great Barrier Reef and national parks. As a member of the Club of
Rome (an international group of visionaries) he took part in
discussions about many future predicaments facing humanity.
On retirement, Harry and Marcia became the
virtual founders of Milton-Ulladulla U3A. Harry died in October
1994, greatly mourned. Marcia is still very active in U3A, as a
student and has also given many years of service as a French language
tutor.
When the campus acquired its own meeting
room in the Milton Cultural Centre, it was named the Harry Higgs
Room.
