THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

Precious Blood of Jesus,
infinite price of our redemption
and both the drink and the laver of our souls,
you continually plead the cause of all people
before the throne of infinite mercy.
From the depths of my heart I adore you.
Jesus,
insofar as I am able
I want to make reparation for the insults and outrages
which you receive from human beings,
especially from those who blaspheme you.
Who would not venerate this Blood of infinite value!
Who does not feel inflamed with love for Jesus
who shed it!
What would have become of me
had I not been redeemed
by this divine Blood!
Who has drained it all from the veins of my Saviour?
Surely this was the work of love!
O infinite love,
which has given us this saving balm!
O balm beyond all price,
welling up from the fountain of infinite love!
Grant that every heart and every tongue
may render you praise and thanks
now and forever!

CHAPLET OF THE PRECIOUS BLOOD

This devotion consists of seven mysteries in which we meditate on the seven principal sheddings of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. The Our Father without the Hail Mary is said five times after each mystery except the last, when it is said three times - in all, thirty-three times in honour of the thirty-three years of Our Lord's life on earth.

V.  0 God, come to my assistance!
R.  Lord, make haste to help me!
V.  Glory be to the Father, etc.
R.  As it was in the beginning, etc.

First Mystery

Jesus shed His Blood in the Circumcision. Let us ask for chastity of soul and body.

Our Father five times, Glory be to the Father once.

V.  We pray you, Lord, help your servants!
R.  Whom You have redeemed with Your
Precious Blood!

(This invocation to the Precious Blood is said after the Our Father and Glory be of each mystery.)

Second Mystery

Jesus shed His Blood in the Agony while praying in the Garden of Olives. Let us ask for the spirit of prayer.

Third Mystery

Fourth Mystery

Fifth Mystery

Jesus shed His Blood while carrying His Cross to Calvary. Let us ask for acceptance of our daily crosses.

Sixth Mystery

Jesus shed His Blood in the terrible Crucifixion. Let us ask for contrition.

Seventh Mystery

Jesus shed Blood and water from His side pierced by the Lance. Let us ask for perseverance.

Prayer in reparation for blasphemy against the Most Precious Blood.

My Dear Eternal Father, I beg You convert those whose behaviour toward the Precious Blood of Your Divine Son has been so blasphemous. Help them to understand that His Real Presence, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity is truly there upon the Altar of Sacrifice in the Most Precious Blood. Receive the Precious Blood of Your Divine Son as with His Body, wholly present, upon the Altar of Sacrifice. Renew in the hearts of all Catholics belief in the True Presence upon the Altar. Pour out upon all the faithful the Precious Blood of Your Divine Son for the Salvation of Souls and upon all who receive the Holy Eucharistic Sacrament. Amen.
