JERVIS BAY

Named in 1791 by Lt Richard Bowen of the transport "Atlantic" after the British Admiral, Sir John JERVIS (1735-1823) who later was in command of the British Fleet at the Battle of St. Vincent in 1797. After the battle he was created an earl, thus becoming Earl St. Vincent.
