NOWRA
Is generally accepted that NOWRA comes from an Aboriginal word meaning either "camping place" or "black cockatoo". Charles Throsby probably wrote the word for the first time, when he travelled through the area in 1821, and his spelling was NOO-WOO-RO. In those early days it was also spelt NOORA.
